![]() ![]() It is the story of Parel Valleiers' unity, their perseverance and constant pursuit of Blue Thread excellence during an unknown period… The list of achievements in PV's 2020 YEARBOOK is obviously not as long as in the previous year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the resulting restrictions, but it is rather the unwritten achievements between the lines that tell a story. The governing body, management and staff are proud of the highlights achieved together during a year that brought many new challenges. Mr Boudewijn de Vries (1986 - 1996), the founding principal, established our school at the foot of the Helderberg on a portion of the historical farm Parel Vallei. Mrs Nolene Duvenage was part of these twelve staff members and she still teach here! Its real "Date of Birth" was on 21 October 1985, when the first parents' meeting was held in the school hall of Beaumont Primary School. These range from the context wherein the production is created, the length of the production, and especially ethical boundaries, including the responsibility of the verbatim theatre maker to represent both the subjects and material at the intersection between verisimilitude and contextual restrictions The article examines scenes from the production to conclude that visual metaphor can enrich the verbal aspect of the verbatim research to expand, replace or comment on the content generated and explored during the data collection phase.Parel Vallei High School opened its doors in January 1986, with twelve staff members and 190 learners in Std 6 and 7. The article further examines the aesthetic and thematic applications of visual metaphor and argues that visual metaphor can be used to circumvent problems or restrictions that arise in the data collection phase of the verbatim theatre process. The process of verbatim theatre creation within this context is explored, with examples from both the process and the production Wag, ek kry gou my foon (2017). This article explores the process of constructing visual metaphor for a youth verbatim theatre production within the South African, Afrikaans school context. ![]()
